ꦅAs the war in Ukraine continues to rage, French President Emmanuel Macron held discussions with US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as part of an effort to end the Ukraine war.
🙈The French President shared that in his call with Trump and Zelenskyy, he urged for lasting peace in Ukraine and an end to Russian aggression.
💯"After bringing together several European leaders, I have just spoken with President @realDonaldTrump and then with President @ZelenskyyUa. We seek a strong and lasting peace in Ukraine. To achieve this, Russia must end its aggression, and this must be accompanied by strong and credible security guarantees for the Ukrainians. Otherwise, there is a risk that this ceasefire will end up like the Minsk agreements," Macron wrote on X.
Macron Calls For Emergency Summit
🎃Macron's talk with Trump and Zelenskyy came after the French president called for an emergency summit with European leaders in light of Trump sidelining Europe.
෴Macron hosted the leaders of the UK, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, Denmark and the Netherlands, alongside top EU representatives and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte for the emergency summit.
🍎After the meeting, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated the Europe needs to have a role in the negotiations related to the Ukraine war. However, the Labour leader added that any future security guarantee for Kyiv would require a "US backstop."
