Oscars 2025: Kanguva, All We Imagine As Light, Girls Will Be Girls And Other Indian Films On Contenders List for Best Picture

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed the list of 323 feature films eligible for Oscarsꦇ 2025. Out of these, 207 films have met the eligibility criteria for the prestigious Best Picture category.

Seven Indian films are also on the contenders' list of the 97th Academy Awards. Suriya starrer Kanguva (Tamil), Payal Kapadia's All We Imagine As Light (Malayalam-Hindi), Girls Will Be Girls (Hindi-English), Prithviraj Sukumaran's Aadujeevitham (The Goat Life) (Hindi), Santosh (Hindi), Randeep Hooda's Swatantrya Veer Savarkar (Hindi) and Putul🦩 (Bengali) are part of the list of 207 eligible films.

Putulꩲ, directed and produced by Indira Dhar has scripted history by becoming the first Bengali film to earn this feat.

🍰Voting for nominations will start tomorrow, January 8, 2025, and will end on January 12, 2025. The final nominations for Oscars 2025 will be announced on January 17, 2025. The award ceremony will take place on March 2, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre in Ovation Hollywood.

꧅The Academy recently revealed the shortlists for 10 categories: Animated Short Film, Documentary Feature, Documentary Short, International Feature, Live Action Short, Makeup and Hairstyling, Original Score, Original Song, Sound and Visual Effects.

Anuja🌺, a short film with an Indian connection, produced by two-time Oscar-award winning producer Guneet Monga, has been shortlisted in the Live Action Short category.

Kiran Rao's Laapataa Ladies (retitled Lost Ladies) which was India's official entry at the 2025 Academy Awards over All We Imagine As Light🅷, couldn't make it to the shortlist for the Oscars 2025 in the Best International Feature category.
