San Antonio Spurs point guard Chris Paul led the tributes to Victor Wembanyama, who is expected to miss the rest of the NBA season through injury. (More Sports News)
♍Wembanyama has been diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder, which is a form of blood clot that will keep him out of action.
📖The issue was discovered when the 21-year-old returned from the NBA All-Star game and is typically treated with blood-thinning medication, which rules him out of playing basketball.
☂"It's tough," Spurs point guard Chris Paul said. "Tough more than anything, I think for all of us, knowing how much he means to our team, but more so knowing how much he means to the game and how much he loves to play."
💫The Spurs are hopeful that their main man will have made a full recovery by the start of the 2025-26 season and be back on the court.
🎀But the team said in its statement that updates on Wembanyama's condition would be provided as appropriate.
𒁏"I think everybody understands that basketball is what we do and not who we are," Paul said.
𝓡"Life is so much more important but for us, we know losing a big part of our team like that is [made up for] by committee. And trust me, you can't replace Vic. I can't stand on a guy's shoulders and block every shot that comes to the rim.
ꦡ"Aside from his basketball ability, his charisma and what he brings into the locker room I think is what we'll miss the most."
🍰The Spurs are currently 12th in the Western Conference with a 24-29 record, six games back on the final Play-In qualification spot.
😼Following their 120-109 win over the Phoenix Suns on Thursday, they host the Detroit Pistons at Moody Center on Friday.
