Sam Ward scored a brace as England secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over India's men's team in the FIH Hockey ♎Pro League 2024/25 match at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Monday.
Ward raised his season's tally to 11 goals by scoring twice (19' and 29') following James Payton's opener (15'). India responded with two goals from Abhishek (18') and Sukhjeet Singh 🎀(39') but were undone by some resolute defending from England.
In the women's, Salima Tete and co lost to Netherlands with a scoreline of 4-2. The match was a momentous occasion for former skipper Savita Punia as she claimed her 300th cap for the country.
The next FIH Pro League ꦿ2024-25 stop will be in Europe, with Valencia in Spain and Amsterdam in the Netherlands, hosting both men's and women's matches in June.
🍸India men resume their campaign on June 7 with a fixture against the Netherlands in the Amsterdam leg, which will also see Argentina in action. India will then head to Belgium for their final league matches against the hosts and Australia in Antwerp.
𓃲India women, meanwhile, will be in England for matches against Australia and Argentina, starting June 14. After the London leg, they will have matches in Antwerp to take on hosts Belgium and then China, in the final league round, in Berlin, Germany.
ꦕAs far as the points table goes, the men's team is placed fourth ahead of the final game in Bhubaneshwar whereas the women's team remains a lowly seventh in the points table of the FIH Pro League 2024-25.
