Lucy Bronze says Chelsea "want to go the season unbeaten" after moving seven points clear at the top of the Women's Super League after beating title rivals Arsenal. (More Sports News)
The Blues edged to a 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge on ♛Sunday thanks to a 🌠late Guro Reiten penalty, while Arsenal finished the game with 10 players after Katie McCabe was booked twice for dissent in seven seconds following the decision to give the spot-kick.
Chelsea have now won 41 of their last 43 home games in the WSL (D1 L1), a run that starte෴d with a 3-0 victory against Arsenal in Febr✱uary 2021. The Blues have also won all eight of their league matches at Stamford Bridge.
Sonia Bompastor's team have won 11 of their 12 WSL matches this term, drawing the other, while they are also 🍃througꦓh to the knockout stages of the Women's Champions League, the Women's League Cup semi-final and the fifth round of the FA Cup.
They are yet to lose under 🌟the Frenchwoman since she took ဣover from Emma Hayes, and Bronze is convinced they can maintain that level until the end of the campaign.
&q𝕴uot; We're trying to win four trophies and that's difficult," Bronze told BBC Two.
"We wanted to get a𒆙 good stretch of points [to be in a good posiﷺtion] when we're in the thick of it in March, April and May.
&qu📖ot;It's difficult [then] and you might drop points, but we're in a good placeജ now, and we're on the up. We want to go the season unbeaten.
&q🐈uot; There's records out there to break. Chelsea's a team that has always wanted to do that.
"We've never clinched the Champions League. We've got five leagueಌ titles in a row but [going] unbeaten [would be] unbelievable. We're on a good road to doing that."
Chelsea ha🌊ve gone unbeaten twice before in the WSL, in 2017-18 and 2019-20, while the only English team not to lose in all competitions in the modern era was Arsenal in 2006-07, the season they won the quadruple.
Despite their healthy lead in the table, 🧜Bompastor was quꦉick to point out that they have not won anything yet.
"That [going unbeaten] is not what I'm thinking at the moment. I'm really please💦d with the result. As you could see in the game, it was really fine margins," she said.
"These performances are on the edge. It can go one𒁏 way or the other, but it went ou🍬r way, which I'm really pleased with.
"We just want to take it game by game, making sure we make the right decisions to bring great results. We are far away yet ꧟from winning something."
