Indian batting bulwark Virat Kohli became the fastest in the world to get to 14,000 one-day international runs, going past the landmark in his 287th innings during the India vs Pakistan clash in ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai on Sunday, February 23. The 36-year-old Kohli has thus surpassed the♊ legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who scaled the 14k run peak in 350 innings. Kohli is now only the third batter in ODI cricket to have scored 14,000 runs, after Tendulkar (18,🐟246 runs) and Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara (14,234 runs).

Kohli needed 15 runs at the start of his innings to cross the 14,000-run mark, and he got there with a sumptuous cover drive against Pakistan seamer Harisꦏ Rauf. The former India captain was also the fastest to 13,000 ODI runs, which he had completed in September 2023 against Pakistan in Col🤪ombo during the Asia Cup.

Kohli already holds the record for scoring the most ODI centuries (50), having gone past Ten▨dulkar during the 2023 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand in Mumbai. He also has 73 half-centuries to his name in the format he's virtually🌃 made his own.

Earlier in the game agains🐷t Pakistan, Kohli had gone past former captain Mohammad Azharuddin’s record of most catches by any Indian fielder when he took his 157th catch in his 299th ODI. Azharuddin had taken 156 catches in his 334 ODIs for India between 1985-2000.

Kohli took a forward divin🎐g catch after running in from long on to dismiss Pakistan﷽’s Naseem Shah off Kuldeep Yadav. He then took his 158th catch when he grabbed his second of the match at deep midwicket to dismiss Khushdil Shah off Harshit Rana.
