Singer Mohammed Rafi’s son Shahid Rafi on Wednesday, November 27, announced a biopic on his late father during the ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2024, in Goa. Shahid also shared he is in talks with Umesh Shukla (OMG-Oh My God!🐎) to direct the film. The biopic will be officially announced next month on December 24, 2024, which marks Mohammed Rafi’s 100th birth anniversary.
𓆏Rafi's son Shahid during the session titled ‘Aasmaan Se Aaya Farishta – Mohammad Rafi – The King of Melody’, shared: " The announcement will be made in December. I am making a biopic on Rafi sahab…. It is going to be the life story of Rafi sahab. Songs will also be part of the biopic."
He added, “We have made a contract with Umesh Shukla, director of OMG – Oh My God! and 102 Not Out൲. It will be a full-fledged feature film," he added.
♉Veteran actor Sharmila Tagore, singers Sonu Nigam, and Anuradha Paudwal, and filmmaker Subhash Ghai were also present at the event.
ꦬAt this IFFI event, a tribute was paid to the music icon along with several personalities including Raj Kapoor, Tapan Sinha and Akkineni Nageshwar Rao.
The event paid tribute to Mohammed Rafi for his immense contribution to Hindi cinema. Some of his evergreen classics were presented on the stage. Sonu and Sharmila even crooned the song, Aasmaan Se Aaya Farishta, which is from the former's film An Evening In Paris which also starred Shammi Kapoor.
