Even as stances on sports betting continue to shift and evolve across the world, the American Gaming Association (AGA) has released its annual Super Bowl betting handle estimate. It projects a record 1.39 billion US dollars to be wagered legally on Super Bowl LIX, which will be competed between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles at Caesars Superdome on Sunday, February 9 (early on Monday as per India time). ♌United States adults can currently legally wager in 38 states plus Washington DC. “No single event unites sports fans like the Super Bowl and that excitement extends to sports betting, with this year’s record legal handle reflecting its widespread appeal,” said AGA president and CEO Bill Miller in the release.
𝕴“This figure underscores the positive impact of the legal market – from protecting consumers to generating tax revenue that benefits communities across the country – while enhancing the game experience for all.”
ꦺWith television and streaming penetration off the charts globally, sports betting is now more than merely an academic interest for the worldwide audience. The numbers quoted above for Super Bowl instantiate that, as what used to be an American pastime is now readily finding broadcasters all over the world.
𓆉As mentioned earlier, most countries, including India which has the world's second-highest internet userbase, are still struggling with the idea of online betting, and whether to tap into its vast reserves or not. In reality, however, betting has always been associated with sports in some form or other.
🔯Explaining its methodology for the aforementioned estimate, the AGA said: “The Super Bowl LIX estimate includes legal wagers only in U.S. legal jurisdictions. Previously, the AGA, using a public survey instrument, arrived at estimates that incorporated all forms of betting on the Super Bowl, including bets made on unregulated or illegal platforms, as well as casual bets (squares, etc.).
🌸"With years of legal operations in several U.S. states, the AGA now analyzes historical revenue data and other trends to develop a legal wager estimate for major U.S. sports betting moments.”
