After Cristiano Ronaldo's criticism of Ligue 1 irked French football fans, the league's social media handles jumped in to hit back at the Portuguese legend. (More Football News)

For the unversed, Ronaldo compared the top division of French football to the Saudiജ Pro League and said that SPL 🔯;was more superior as well as demanding.

The 39-year-old reveale🔥d his opinion during an appeara🌃nce at the Globe Soccer Awards.

Speaking at the event, ⭕Ronaldo said: "The Saudi Pro League is better than Ligue 1, of course. I'm not saying that because I play here. I don't care what people thin🎃k about it. Players should come here and they will see quickly. Just try to do sprints at 38, 39, 40 degrees."

However, the comments lead to quite a bit of chatter and debate across the footballing community. The French fꩵootball fans came as one, and the support was also backed by Ligue 🌳1’s social media handles. 

In a post on the organisation’s Spanish X (formerly known as Twitter) account, Ligue 1 poked fun at⛎ Ronaldo, highlighting Lionel Messi’s World Cup triumph in Qatar, with a caption that read: “Leo Messi playing in 38 degrees.”

Ronaldo received the Middle East Best Player a🌞ward and was also honoured as the all-💎time top goal scorer at the event organised by his agent Jorge Mendes.
