"Prithvi Shaw is his own enemy," an official from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) criticized the batter following his exclusion from Mumbai's Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 squad. (More Cricket News)
"Shaw missed training sessions regularly during Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as he would enter the hotel at 6 am after being out at night. Everyone has given him the input, we can't babysit him. No one is Shaw's enemy, he is his own enemy", said the MCA official to PTI and this somehow hinted that 𓂃Shaw's omission wasn't just about his inconsistency🐓 with the bat but also related to concerns over his discipline during training.
Prithvi Shaw's Response To MCA?
ღHowever, just a day later, Shaw posted a cryptic message on Instagram: "If you don’t understand it fully, don’t speak on it. Too many people have full opinions, with half the facts." This is seen as a clear and fitting response to the MCA's statements against him.
🌠The fact that Shaw was a key player in Mumbai's SMAT 2024 title victory, contributing crucial performances throughout the campaign, only to be left out of the Vijay Hazare squad, has clearly frustrated him.
Controversy:
🐲However, according to the MCA official, Shaw's inclusion in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy was problematic. The official stated, "We were effectively playing with 10 fielders because we had to hide Shaw." They further added, "The ball would pass near him, and he'd barely move to get to it."
💙And it wasn't just while fielding. The MCA official further criticized Shaw, stating, "Even while batting, it was evident he struggled to reach the ball. His fitness, discipline, and attitude are poor. It’s simple—there cannot be different rules for different players."
🗹Shaw made 10 runs off 6 deliveries in the 2024 SMAT final. However, in the quarterfinal against Vidarbha, he impressed with a knock of 49 off 26 balls. But, his performance in the semifinal against Baroda was underwhelming, managing only 8 off 9 balls. Playing total nine matches he scored 197 runs. While his overall campaign showed promise, it was marked by inconsistency.
Before the end of 2024, this marks yet another setback for Prithvi Shaw in his cricket ꧃career. Shaw went unsold in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) Mega Auction, following a disappointing 2024 IPL season where he managed just 198 runs from eight matches at an average of 24.75 for Delhi Capitals, who did not retain him.
ꦆThe Indian batter who once was regarded as the 'next Sachin Tendulkar' has been out of India’s national squad since July 2021.
