Australia’s Marcus Stoinis on Thursday, February 6, announced his retirement from one-day internationals with immediate effect to focus on T20Is. (More Cricket News)
The 35-year-old all-rounder was named in Australia’s Champions Trophy 2025 squad, but will now not take part in the competi📖tion.
Stoinis has been featuring for Durban Super Giants in the ♔ongoing SA20 where he was reportedly injured,✱ sustaining a mild hamstring injury while bowling.
"Playing ODI cricket for Australia has been an incredible journey, and I’m grateful forꦅ every moment I’ve had in the green and gold," Stoinis was quoted as saying 💝by cricket.com.au
"Representing my country at the highest le🐈vel is something I’ll always cherish. This wasn’t an easy decision, but I believe it’s the right time for me to step away from ODIs and fully focus on the next chapter of my career,” he added.
Australian Head Coach Andrew McDonald said: “Stoin has been suc🦋h a pivotal part of our ODI setup for the past decade.
“Not only has he been an invaluable player but also an incredible person to have in the group. He is a natural leader, an exceptionally popular🔴 player and a great person.
“He shou𒐪lౠd be congratulated on his ODI career and all of his achievements.”
Stoinis has featured in 71 ODIs for Australia, scoring 1495 runs at an average of 26.69, registering six fifties and one hundred. He also has claimed 48 wickets at 43.13 and was named ODI Player of the🌌 Year in 2019.
Stoinis was also a part of 𝓀Australia’s ODI World Cup squads in England (2019) and their successful run in India in 2023.
