The National Investigation Agency special court in Lucknow has convicted 28 individuals accused in the murder case o♔f a person named Chandan Gupta in 2018 during a communal clash in Uttar Pradesh's Kasganj.
The court has not yet revealed the quantum of the punishment and it may be announced on Friday. The 28 accused have been charged under the Prevention of Insult to National Honour Act, 1971 along with sections 307(attempt to murder) and 302 (murder) of the Ind𝓀ian Penal Code.
A clash broke out at a motorcycle rally called Tiranga Yatra held on the Republic Day ( January 26) in 2018 by the members of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal and Hindu Yuva Vahﷺini. Chandan Gupta was participating in the rally where he got killed while another person was injured.
District government counsel Manoj Tripathi was quoted by the , saying, “We will seek maximum pu🅷nishment for all those convicted.”
According to report, the individuals convicted have been identified as Salim, Wasim, Nasim, Jahid ‘Jagga’, Asiq Qureshi ‘Hitler’,♓ Aslam Qureshi, Akram, Taufeeq, Khillan, Shabab, Rahat, Salam, Mohsin, Asif Jimwala,🍌 Saquib, Bablu, Nishu, Wasif, Imran, Shamshad, Jafar, Sakir, Khalid Parvez, Faizan, Imran Qayyum, Sakir Siddiqui, Munazir Rafi and Amir Rafi.
There are two others - Nasiruddin and Asim Qureshi - whom the court acquitted as they were given the bဣene🤡fit of doubt.
Reportedly, Munazir Ra🍸fi was in jail for the murder of lawyer Mohini Tomar in Kasganj. Mohini Tomar was killed on September 3, ꦉ2024, in Kasganj.
Rafi is also accused in the murder of𒊎 Chandan Gup🐈ta.
The other accused in the case were out on bail 𓆏but later surrendered in court and were 𝕴sent to jail.
2018 Communal Clash
The communal clash that took place on the republic Day seven years ago started🌄 from an argument and slowly escalated to stone pelting and ended up in shots being🐻 fired. While Chandan Gupta died, another person was shot during the clash.
Kasganj witnessed unrest for days after the incident took place and the police had to impose a week-long curfew and internet shutdown to tacklಌe the situation.
The police filed a chargesheet in the case July 2018 and later the case was picked up by the NIA as the charges of sed🎀ition was also slapped on the accused.
