A 4.6 magnitude earthquake struck parts of Ladakh on January 1 at 06:32pm. This was the second earthquake to be reported on New Years day from north India, with the first reported early on Sunday at 01:19am from🅠 Haryana's Jhajjar district.
The earthquake on Sunday evening was felt 250 km North-Northeast of Kargil district as 🉐per information shared by the National Centre for Seismology.
There were no immediate reports of any damages.
Leh and Ladakh both l♒ie in the Siesmic Zone-IV of the country, which ⛄means they are at a very high risk in terms of vulnerability to earthquakes. Lying in the tectonically active Himalayas region, Leh and Ladakh are prone to frequent tremors.
