Breaking yesterday's record as the coldest day of the season, mercur෴y in Delhi further plummeted today to 3.6 degrees Celsius alongside a thick blanket of dense fog prevailing over the national capital region. As per media reports, the mercury dipped even lower🐟 in the Lodhi Road area to 3.4 degrees Celsius.
What did the IMD say?
Owing to the prevailing cold wave conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚert for Delhi, Punjab, and Harꩵyana for Saturday and an orange alert in the region for tomorrow (Sunday).
"Dense to very dense fog at many places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh and dense fog at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan. Moderate fog in isolated pockets over Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh. Cold day to sওevere cold day conditions at many places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and at isolated places in Uttar Pradesh," the weather department said.
"A blanket of dense fog engulfed most parts of Northern Indi𓆉a, disrupting rail and air traffic in the entire region. Dense to very dense fog will continue in parts of northwest India during the next 3 days," it added
Cold wave in Delhi: Status quo
As per the Met department🐠, the cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are very likely to continue in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi today.
The national capital is likely to witness partly cloudy sky with dense 🎃fog in the morning. The minimum temperature is expected to remain below 5 degrees Celsius for the second consecutive day, it added.
