🔜Australia skipper Steve Smith won the toss and elected to field first against long-standing rivals England in match 4 of ICC Champions Trophy 2025, at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Saturday (February 22). The in-form Alex Carey found a spot in the Aussie middle-order, alongside the other wicketkeeper Josh Inglis. The Jos Buttler-led England had already named their playing XI on the eve of the match, which is the campaign opener for both sides. The last time England played an ODI in Pakistan was back in December 2005. Meanwhile, Australia have not won a match in Champions Trophy across the last two editions.

꧂Lorenzo Lucca’s argument with teammates about him taking a first-half penalty scarred Udinese’s 1-0 win at Lecce in Serie A on Saturday (February 22, 2025). Captain Florian Thauvian is Udinese’s regular penalty-taker but Lucca grabbed the ball and pushed away teammates who came to discuss his decision. There was a long delay before the spot kick could be taken as Udinese players remonstrated with the former Pisa and Ajax striker. Lucca, however, held his nerve and made no mistake to slot his third goal in five games. He was pulled off by the coach moments later, with nine minutes still remaining in the first half. The result lifted Udinese to within a point of ninth-placed Roma. Lecce remained 15th, five points above the relegation zone.

🐷Kiliann Sildillia scored with a spectacular overhead kick as Freiburg strengthened their push to qualify for the Champions League for the first time after beating Werder Bremen 5-0 in the Bundesliga on Saturday (February 22, 2025). When the ball deflected high into the air at a corner in the 15th minute, Sildillia lined himself up below it to hit a daring shot which left Bremen goalkeeper Michael Zetterer little chance. Vincenzo Grifo scored twice to extend Freiburg’s lead, one direct from a free kick, the other to finish off a rapid counterattack, and Ritsu Doan added two more late in the game. It was the fourth win in a row for Freiburg and the team’s largest margin of victory in a Bundesliga game since 2021.

⭕Brentford hammered Leicester City 4-0 and set a club record of four consecutive away wins in the Premier League on Saturday (February 22, 2025). Thomas Frank’s men were all over Leicester and were 3-0 up before halftime. Yoane Wissa took Mikkel Damsgaard’s exquisite flick and bundled the ball in from close range after 17 minutes. Ten minutes later, Bryan Mbuemo cut in from the right and crashed in a curling shot. Then skipper Christian Norgaard’s deft header sealed the match as a contest with 33 minutes gone. The Foxes have now lost six consecutive Premier League home games without scoring, which is the longest ever run by an English top-flight team in a single season.

Ryan Rickelton was the hero for the Proteas as his maiden ODI century powered them to 315/6. Temba Bavuma, Rassie van der Dussen and Aiden Markram too scored fifties. In reply, the Afghans were folded for 208 with only Rahmat Shah providing some resistance with a 90. Kagiso Rabada was the pick of the Proteas bowlers with a three-wicket haul.
