Friendship as a framework in political and international relations theory entails an innovative paradigm shift and a transformative vision. While historically powerful Western nations often have, in a continuation of colonial 𝔉tactics, played India and its neighbours against each other, or assumed a unilateral right to lecture, friendship involves building more equal ties, care, and mutual understanding, writes Debotri Dhar.

Of all the Indian Ambassadors to the United States, only four have been women. Of all the US Ambassadors to India, including noౠn-career appointees and interim Charge d’Affairs, only four have been women. The irony here is obvious. Given the cross-cultural stereotyping of women as peaceful and diplomatic, one would have expected to see many more🏅 women in diplomacy.
