British actress Olivia Hussey Eisley, known for her iconic role as Juliet in Franco Zeffirelli's 1968 film Romeo and Juliet, breathed her last on December 27, at the age of 73.
Her family released a statement on her Instagram, that read: "It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Olivia Hussey Eisley, who went peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on Dece💖mber 27th.''
It further read: "Olivia was a remarkable person whose warmth, wisdom, and pure kindness touched the lives of all who knew her. Born on April 17th, 1951 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Olivia lived a life full of♓ passion, love, and dedication to the arts, spiriꦜtuality, and kindness towards animals.
"Olivia leaves behind a loving family— her childre♚n, Alex, Max, and India, her husband of 35 years David Glen Eisley, and grandson, Greyson, and a legacy of love that will forever be cherished in our hearts. As we grieve this immense loss, we also celebrate Olivia’s enduring impact on our lives and the industry. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time and ask for privacy as we mourn the loss of a truly sp🐲ecial soul."
Olivia Hussey Eisley was born in 1951 in Buenos Aires, Argentina and was raised in the United Kingdom. She studied drama a🍬t Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts.
Eisley player the lead role in Romeo and Juliet at the young age♑ of 15. The movie became controversial because of the nudity scenes.
It was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Olivia and her co-star Leonard Whiting earned Golden Globe Awards for their performances.
Besides Romeo and Juliet, Olivia also starred in Death on the Nile, Psycho IV: The Beginning, It and Black Christmas among others.
