Neeraj Goyat, the first Indian boxer to have made the WBC rankings, is up against Whindersson Nunes, a Brazilian YouTuber and comedian in a super-middleweight fight. This is a six🐻-round, non-title clash.
Goyat, already one of the most recognisable boxers in India, dominated his rookie opponent from Brazil in the first couple of rouওnds. The 2008 Youth Commonwealth Games medallist pinned the social media influencer in one of the corners. And he even allowed Nunes to have a go at his body. Fun!
Career Stats
Neeraj Goyat record: 18-4-2
Whindersson Nunes record: 0-1
India's Neeraj Goyat has won his bout by unanimous decision. It was one-way traffic from the Indian boxer, who claims the win🔥 by a comprehensive 60-54 margin in the six-round, non-title fight. That's the 19th career win for Goyat, who landed 171 punches overall as against Nunes’ 87.
We have quite the elite collection of experts to call the action as it happens. Andre Ward, Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield are all in the house, as ܫthe undercard bouts continue before the blockbuster main༺ event.
Alright, what do we have up next? The WBC welterweight ꧂title is up for grabs now, with interim champion Mario Barrios of the United States 🌞 taking on compatriot Abel Ramos in a 12-round fiesta. Buckle up!
Drama! An explosive right hand from Barrios connects flush on Ramos' face and the latter falls to the ground, seconds before round number two ജends. This bout is spicing up pretty quickly.
With his hotly-awaited bout less than two hours away, Mike Tyson is makin🌠g his way into the AT&T Stadium. What wouldn't one give to know what's on the legendary boxer's mind before taking the ring for probably the last time. The crowd erupts upon seeing him on the big screen with 'Iron Mike' printed in bold on his jacket. It's on.
Round five has come to an end, and Barrios is well in front at the moment with a 50-44 reading on the unofficial scorecard. Ramos now trying to go all out with his🎉 hooks, and he knocks Barrios down with back-to-back right-handers in the sixth round! That's an astounding turnaround from what has been transpiring so far. Ramos right back in it, and the commentators cannot control th🅰eir excitement. We have a fight on our hands.
As the Barrios vs Ramos bout heats up, we getꦰ a sight of The Karate Kid stars Ralph Macchio and William Zabka watching on intently. The duo is here for the part two of Cobra Kai's sixth and final season,💝 which is releasing tonight on Netflix.
We are into the penultimate round No. 11 of the Barrios vs Ramos bout. What began as a one-sided match has turned into an intense slugfest with the Americans trading heavy punches. The gap has narrowed to 95-93 (in Barrios' favour) after 10 rounds, and it is anybody's bout now, with the momentum now going Ramos' way. Both boxers are bloodied and bruised, and their faces tell the tale of all the beating that have inflicted and rece🧜ived. Stay tuned to figure out how this ends.
We have a split draw in the Barrios vs Ramos bout. Barrios retains his WBC welterweight title as a result. A f𝓰itting end to what has been a wildly entertaining, rollercoaster encounter. Barrios landed 279 punches as against Ramos' 204, and the verdicts are 116-110 Barrios, 114-112 Ramos, and 113-113.
Whew, that was a breathtaking clash. Time now for 𝕴the co-main event between defending champion Katie Taylor and seven-division champ Amanda Serrano for the undisputed women's junior welterweight title. The fight will unfold over 10 rounds of two minutes each, and will be considered official post four rounds.
Wow, what was that? Aﷺ massive left-hander from Serrano disorients Taylor towards the end of round 1. Such punches are not customary in these weight categories and the defending champion has been jolted. The opening round goes to Serrano and so does the second, who is acing the early exchanges.
Oh, shucks. The Netflix stream seems to hꦓave malfunctioned in the middle of the broadcast. Many users complaining online about the match lagging and being 🌱unable to witness the enthralling action. This is no fun!
While we await the resumption of the Netflix stream, here is a cool factoid about Mike Tyson: The boxing legend reportedly had 🐠a 20 inch (50.8 cm) neck at the age of 18, and apparently offered an attendant 10,000 US dollars at the New York zoo to open the gorilla cage and smash the head of one that was bullying the rest!
We have an outright winner in the women's undisputed super lightweight bout. Defending champion Katie Taylor takes the title by way of a unanimous decision, and a controversial one at🍃 that. Many considered it to be much a closer fight than the ruling indicates, with Serrano unsettl🎶ing Taylor with her huge left-handers early on. Nevertheless, there will be no re-match.
This is getting a but much. The biggest boxing contest of the year, if not decade, is underway and we still don't have resumption of streaming services. The 58-year-old Tyson is looking resolute against the steely-eyed Paul in round 1. Live streaming may be unavailable still on Netflix, but we have got you cౠovered. Stay with us for real-time updates.
Halfway through the bout, it's not looking good for Mike Tyson. He's breathing very heavily and his legs don't seem 🐻to be holding out. Remember, we have eight rounds of two minutes each scheduled in the bout. At 58, it is inco𒐪nceivably tough to withstand the force of pro-level punches of a single round. Eight whole rounds is an entirely different matter. That the legend is still on his feet against Jake Paul is testament to his will and skill.
And that's that. The bout ends in a tame manner as Paul wins by unanimous decision, the easiest decision to make f♛or judges one would reckon in a fight like this. Paul called the shots from start to end and many spectators left the ring midway, annoyed by the lopsided nature of the match-up. As for the result, one judge scored it 80-72 and two saw it as a 79-73 win for Paul. Meanwhile, with the showpiece event over, Netflix is now back and running for many users.
Tyson: "I am happy. I knew he was a good fighter. I knew he wa♐s prepared. I didn't prove nothing to anybody, only to myself. I am just happy with what I can do."
(On Jake Paul): "Very good fighter. 🐠Absolutely [deserves respect].
(On ꦿwhether he will fight again): "I don't know, it depends on the situation. I don't think so, maybe his brother [Logan]."
(On wearing a𒁃 knee brace): "Yeah [I had a knee injury], but I can't use that for an excuse."
(On biting his glove throughout the fight): "That was a habit of mine, biting my glove when I fight. I ♒have a biting fixation."
Paul: "Mike Tyson, it's such an honour. Le🦹t's give it up for Mike, the greatest to ever do it. We wouldn't be here without him today with him, this man is an icon. It's just an honour to be able to fight him. It was really tough fight. I𝔉 expected it to be.
"He was exactly w🐬hat I thought. One of the greatest to ever do it. An icon. I was trying to hurt him a little bit. I was scared h🌄e was going to hurt me. I did my best."
A true reflection of just how lopsided the bout🐼 was, was the fact that Mike Tyson landed just 18 punches across eight rounds of two minutes each, as against 78 punches from Jake Paul. Tyson showed some enterprise in the opening round when he was the most energetic but tha🎀t was about it, as all his years out of the arena were painfully evident. Paul was most active in round three, throwing 44 punches, though only 16 landed.
Many were expecting this bout to be the last of Tyson's career, and looking at how he fared ꦫtonight, it is realistic to stick to that expectation. Tyson himself h🐼as vowed to fight on, but at 58 years of age, it is hard to see the legend regaining reflexes of yore. As for Paul, a clash against Canelo Alvarez has been on the anvil but after his imperious display against Tyson, the ball is firmly in Paul's court.
