In a significant ruling, the Supreme Court has affirmed that divorced Muslim women have ℱthe right to seek maintenance from their ex-husbands under Section 125 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), in addition to provisions 🍎under the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Divorce) Act, 1986. The division bench, comprising justices BV Nagarathna and Augustine George Masih, clarified that this entitlement extends beyond the iddat (a mandatory waiting period after divorce) stipulated in the 1986 Act.
