🌜The Mumbai police are expected to recreate the crime scene at Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan’s Bandra residence as part of their investigation into the brutal stabbing attack on January 16, in which the actor was injured by an intruder.

🙈The police have taken the 30-year-old Bangladeshi national, Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, in their custody till January 24, and he will likely be taken to the scene of the crime during this period.

💝Shehzad, who was arrested on Sunday morning in Thane city, is accused of sneaking into Khan's Bandra apartment with the intent to commit theft. Police sources stated that Shehzad gained entry to the ‘Satguru Sharan’ building by scaling the structure and entering through a bathroom window.

ℱUpon being discovered by the actor’s staff, a confrontation ensued, resulting in the actor being repeatedly stabbed. Khan underwent a five-hour surgery at Lilavati Hospital and is currently recovering.

ℱIn court, the police outlined the sequence of events, revealing that Shehzad had entered the building using a combination of stairs, ducts, and pipes to reach Khan's 12th-floor apartment. Authorities are also investigating whether Shehzad had criminal antecedents, as a hammer, screwdriver, and other suspicious items were found in his bag.

Two lawyers compete to represent Saif Ali Khan’s alleged attacker

ဣThe case took a dramatic turn in court on Sunday when two lawyers competed to represent the accused Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, prompting the magistrate to intervene and act as a referee in the proceedings.

As Shehzad was about to sign the ‘vakalatnama’ (legal document authorising a lawyer to appear on his behalf), another lawyer swiftly moved to the accused box and obtained his signature, PTI 𒀰reported This sparked confusion about who would officially represent the alleged attacker.

♛The magistrate then suggested that both the lawyers represent Shehzad together. “You both can appear,” the magistrate said, and the lawyers reluctantly agreed, bringing the focus back to the remand proceedings.

ꦐShehzad was subsequently remanded in police custody for five days as police continue their investigation into the attack.

Police probe possible international conspiracy

🍃As the investigation progresses, the police have raised the possibility of an international conspiracy. Authorities emphasised that Shehzad, who entered India illegally and had been working in Mumbai for several months, might have connections to broader criminal activities. The court, while granting police custody, acknowledged that the prosecution’s claim of an international conspiracy could not be ruled out.

൲Shehzad’s defence lawyer, however, contended that his client had been residing in India for years and had valid documents. Despite this, the police have intensified their inquiries into how Shehzad entered the country illegally and his potential connections to other criminal elements.

What Shehzad did after the incident

ꦗFollowing the attack, Shehzad reportedly fled the scene and spent several hours in Bandra before boarding a train to Worli. During this time, police noted that he may have had time to escape due to a lapse in sharing CCTV footage from Khan’s building.

💯Authorities are investigating how the intruder managed to remain undetected and continue his escape.

🍷The investigation has also raised questions about the items found in Shehzad’s bag, which included tools such as a hammer and screwdriver. These materials suggest he might have planned other criminal activities beyond the attack on Khan.

🐈The police are scrutinising these findings to determine whether Shehzad was involved in similar incidents or had a history of criminal behaviour.
