Friedrich Merz, leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CD꧙U), emerged as the w🦋inner in Germany's national election, marking a significant shift in the European nation's political stance.

Merz’💞s win was celebrated by U.S. President Donald Trump, who called it𝔉 a win for conservative principles.

Taking to his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump praised the CDU for what he defined as a major win, noti♔ng the similarity in the results in Germany’s election and the political climate in the🧸 U.S.

According to Trum🐭p, the ꦆpeople of Germany were "tired of the no common sense agenda," particularly regarding energy policies and migration issues. He expressed his disappointment with failures the of previous leadership and stated confidence in more wins to come.

"This is a great day for Germany and for the United States of America under the leadership of a gentleman named Donald J. Trump. Congratulations to all -- many♐ more victꦕories to follow!!!"

Germany went to the polls on February 23, 2025. As per the exit polls, the CDU, led by Merz, won against the incumbent Chancellor Olaf S🐻cholz and the Social Democrats.

Scholz's party ended third, recording its worst postwar presentation in a national p🦂arliamentary election. Calling the result "bitter", Scholz accepted the d꧟issatisfaction voters had with his administration.

The snap polls have also indicꦍated a major shift in the political landscape of Germany, especially after far-right party - Alternative for Germany (AfD) - doubled its support, marking the first time a far-right party gained support in Germany since World War 2.

This flow in support for the AfD, which has been a vocal critic of migration and the European Union, reflects growing frustration✨ဣ with the political formation and the continuing debates about national identity, energy policy, and the country’s response to global challenges.

Amid the concerns around economic inactivity, Merz, who und📖erlined conser🧸vative economic policies, promised to take a more unbending approach on issues like energy security and immigration.

A key reason behind his win is due to the fact 🌳many Germans felt the Scholz government had not done enough to address the🦋se concerns, along with his stance on immigration.

Merz, instead of his success, faces the difficult task of making a coalition government. While the CDU’sꦛ victory is a clear mandate for change, it remains unclear how Merz will navigate the uneven political landscape.
