Karla Sofía Gascón is the first openly transgender actress to bag a Best Actress nomination for her performance in Emilia Pérez.
𝕴As per reports, post her controversial remarks, Gascón was removed from major entertainment industry events, including the Critics Choice Awards, the Directors Guild of America Awards, AFI Awards luncheon, and the Producers Guild of America Awards.
♋The actress was said to fly to Los Angeles ahead of the Oscar campaign. But Netflix has now distanced itself from providing any financial support for her travel and styling.
🅰As per a report in The Hindu, sources revealed that Netflix and Gascón’s PR agency, The Lede Company, have stopped direct communication with her, and they are now coordinating only through her UTA representative.
🅰However, Netflix is yet to confirm if Gascón will attend the award ceremony or not.
෴Karla Sofía Gascón has landed into controversy for her social media posts which she posted between 2020 and 2021. In her posts, he made remarks on Muslims, George Floyd, and diversity at the Oscars. Though the posts are deleted now, it has erupted again after journalist Sarah Hagi highlighted Gascon's previous tweets.
♓In a post from November 2020, reacting to George Floyd's death, she tweeted, "I really think that very few people ever cared about George Floyd, a drug addict swindler, but his death has served to once again demonstrate that there are people who still consider black people to be monkeys Without rights and consider policemen to be assassins. They’re all wrong."
♏She later issued a public apology, and also deleted her X account.
Emilia Perez earned 13 Oscar nominations and the final round of voting begins on February 11. Netflix🐻 is leaving no stones unturned to protect the film’s other nominees including the Best Supporting Actress contender Zoe Saldana.
