"If we want to prevent our society from being plunged into corruption and turmoil, we should keep women in hijab."
— Ayatollah Khamenei, Supreme Leader of Iran
Outlook Editor Chinki Sinha notes that such statements regarding women have been made over the y🐻ears in Iran and elsewhere, including in💜 India.
In Outlook's upcoming April 21, 2023, issue, we look at the ongoing women's movement in Iran over the country's hijab rules. The death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini last year ignited women-led protests in the country in which women defied the ♈Iranian regime by cutting𝔍 their hair publicly and walking without hijabs. Several women have lost their lives in months of protests. Sinha says the issue is a "homage to those who died in Iran".
She writes, "This issue is fo🎶r all the women who continue to fight for their rights over their own bodies and for equality across the world. It is a homage to those who died in Iran."
