Pune reported as many as 24 suspected cases of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), an immunological nerve disorder, PTI reported. Guillain-Barré syndrome is a rare condition that causes sudden numbness and muscle weakness, with symptom𒁏s like severe weakness in the limbs.

The development has prompted civic authoritie🍰s t🥃o conduct a detailed survey of patients.

Most suspected patients are in th♔e age group of 12 to 30 years, with only one case involving a 59-year-old patient who is currently undergoing treatment.

The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) h🎀ealth department has sent samples of those affected by suspected cases of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) to ICMR-NIV for testing. Officials revealed that most of these cases were detected in the S💫inhgad Road area of the city.

Dr. Nina Borade, the chief of the civic health department, confirmed that the suspected cases had been reported at three to four hospitals in the city. Speaking to PTI, she explained, "Reports of suspected Guillain-Barré syndrome cases have surfaced in the last two days. We have initiated a detailed investigation and formed an expert panel.꧅ Samples have also been sent to ICMR-NIVꦚ for further testing."

As per PTI, of these 24 cases, ꦇ10 were reported at Dinanath Mangeshkar Hospital, four at Kashibai Navle Hospital, five cases at Po🔜ona Hospital, three at Bharti Hospital, and one each at Ankura Hospital and Sahyadri Hospital across the city.

Guillain-Barré syndrome is marked by symptoms such as muscle weakness, changes in sensation, and difficul🐠ty with eye muscles and vision, according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.

Affected individuals may also struggle with swallowing, speaking, or chewing, and experience sensations like pricking or pins and needles in their haꦕnds 🌟and feet.

T🍬he syndrome can also cause severe pain, especially at night, coordination problems, unsteadiness, abnormal heart r💟ate or blood pressure, and issues with digestion and bladder control.
