Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his senior ministers met with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla this evening amid a logjam that has ꩵstalled work in the second half of the budget session.

Proceedings in both Houses of the Parliament were adjourned last week aft🤡er sloganeering over Rah🍸ul Gandhi's 'democracy under attack' remarks while the opposition pushed for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into alleged stock manipulation by the Adani Group. The proceedings have now been adjourned until Friday.

The Congress on Wednesday claimed that♋ the government wants the party to take back its demand for a JPC on the Adani issue and in return it would drop the call for an apology over Rahul Gandhi's remarks in the UK, asserting there was no question of any such compromise.

Addressing a press conference, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said efforts are being made since the last few days that a "formula" or midd𝓰le path is found with both the Opposition and the government relenting.

If the government is serious to allow Parliament to function, allow Gandhi to make a statement in the Lok Sabha, he said. &qꦓuot;Allow him to refute the baseless charges that have b💦een hurled at him by senior ministers and then the house will function."
