PM Modi To Inaugurate Z-Morh Tunnel During 12th Visit To Jammu And Kashmir Since 2014 | What We Know

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting the Un♏ion Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on January 13, 2025. This visit would be Modi's 12th such trip to Jammu and Kashmir since he took office in 2ꦜ014.

Ahead of⛎ his visit, security has been heightened across Srinagar and parts of Kashmir. This will also be PM Modi's first visit to J&K since the assembly elections.

Chief Minister and National Conference leader Omar A🔯bdullah paid a visit to the Z-Morh tunnel to oversee the preparations for the inauguration ceremony.

"Security has been tightened near the Z-Morh tunnel. Multi-layered security arrangements have been put in place and the PM’s securi♕ty team, comprising the SPG personnel, has taken over the venue," police officials told news agency PTI.

Jammu and Kashmir witnessed a sharp incꦿrease in terror attacks in recent months, especially after the a💧ssembly elections. In June 2024, nine people were killed after a group of militants opened fire at a passenger bus in the Reasi district.

In October 2024, seven people, including a local doctor, were killed in a terror attack near a tunnel const🥂ruction site in thꦗe Gagangir area.

Z-Morh Inauguration, Public Rally & More | About Modi's Kashmir Visit

PM Modi will be visi🌱ting the union territory to inaugurate the Z-Morh tunnel on January🐻 13, 2025.

The tunnel was built at a cost of Rs 2,400 crore on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway. This tunnel covers 6.5-km and will make the Ladakh region accessible by✅ road throughout the year.

This tunnel will also serve as a key artery fo♍r strategic military access to Ladakh. The completion of this tunnel, which beganꦆ in May 2015, is a crucial step in bolstering the Indian military's ability to move personnel, equipment and other supplies to Ladakh for better preparedness.

After the inauguration, Modi is expected to address a public rally in Sonamarg, Ganderbal. The prime minister is also expected to hold discussions with senior officials on the region’s development, security issues, and the government’s ongoing efforts to integrate Jammu and Kashmir with the nation, especially since the abrogation of 🌟Article 370.

This meeting is also expected to address the growing demand for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's statehood among regional parties. Both PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah haꦇve public🦋ly stated that statehood would be restored in Jammu and Kashmir after the assembly elections.

Jammu and Kashmir held its first assembly election in a decade in which the National Conference and Congress alliance secured aꦛ majority of votes and formed the next governme♕nt.
