ౠ JD(U)'s withdrawal of support won't impact the stability of the Manipur government, which has only one MLA, but it does send a message to its alliance in Bihar, where the government was formed last year with the huge support of the BJP.

🌄The Janata Dal (United), led by Nitish Kumar, sacked its Manipur unit president, Ksh. Biren Singh on Wednesday after reports of the party withdrawing its support from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party surfaced.

🔯Ksh Biren Singh claimed that the party had withdrawn support to the BJP-led Biren Singh government and informed its decision to governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla.

⭕This surprising political development came after several opposition leaders criticised Chief Minister N Biren Singh's leadership during the ethnic violence that prevailed in Manipur for months and remains unresolved.

꧟The withdrawal, however, will not have any impact on the Biren Singh government as the BJP has 37 seats in the 60 member assembly and is also supported by five MLAs of Naga People's Front and three independents. But it did send a message to its alliance in Bihar, where the government was formed last year with the support of the BJP.

🐽JD(U) is also a prominent ally of the NDA government at the centre with 12 MPs.

What Did JD(U) Spokesperson Say?

ꦗParty's national spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan said Singh's removal was due to indiscipline and asserted that the party would continue to support the BJP-led government in the northeastern state.

🗹Ranjan affirmed that the JD(U) remains committed to supporting the BJP-led NDA, not just in Manipur but across the country.

"Our party has worked diligently to strengthen the NDA and will continue to do so," he added.

What Did Former JD(U) State Chief Tell Manipur Governor?

♑The JD(U) state unit in Manipur has withdrawn support to the BJP-led Biren Singh government and the party has informed its decision to governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla.

💖Former state chief Ksh Biren Singh informed the governor that the lone JDU MLA in the state, Md Abdul Nasir, will sit in the opposition benches.

𓃲In a letter to governor Bhalla, JD(U) state president Ksh Biren Singh said, "In the election to state assembly of Manipur held in February/ March 2022, six candidates set up by JD (U) were returned. After a few months, five MLAs of JD (U) defected to BJP. Trial under Tenth Schedule of India of the five MLAs is pending before the Speaker's Tribunal."

"After JD (U) became part of India Bloc, support to the BJP 🧸led government was withdrawn by JD(U)... as such, seating arrangement of the lone MLA of JD(U) in Manipur Md Abdul Nasir is made in the opposition bench in the last session of the Assembly by the Speaker," it added.
