PDP President Mehbooba Mufti has urged Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud for an expedited hearing of petitions challenging the revocation of Article 370 in August 2019. Mehbooba emphasized the im💜portance of Article 370 and reminded the CJI of the commitment made by the people of Jammu and Kashmir to maintain the region's special status.
In her request, Mehbooba highlighted the pending petitions in the Supreme Court for the pas✤t four years and drew attention to the plight of people, particularly the youth, who a𒉰re detained without trial. The PDP, along with other parties in Jammu and Kashmir, has strongly opposed the scrapping of Article 370.
Accusing the BJP of revoking Article 370 unconstitutionally, Mehbooba cited previous Supreme Court rulings to support h🧜er cla𒐪im that the Article should only be amended if recommended by the Jammu and Kashmir constitutional assembly, according to media reports.
In a tweet, Mehbooba reiterated that Article 370 is a constitutio🍷nal commitment to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, expressing hope that the CJI's presence would shed light on the pressing issues faced by the region, including the deprivation of fundamental rights and guarantees.
