Congress Terms It 'Shameful' As Vice-President Dhankhar Compares PM Modi To Mahatma Gandhi

Congress, terming it 'shameful', slammed Vice President Jagd♋eep Dhankhar over his remarks in context of drawing comparison between the Mahatma Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday. Dhankhar received the backlash as on Monday he described Mahatma Gandhi as the ‘mahapurush’ of the last century, 🀅and termed Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the ‘yugpurush’ of this century.

What did VP Dhankhar say?

On Monday, during his address at an event for Jain mystic and philosopher Shrimad Rajౠchandraji, Dhankhar said, "I would like to tell you one thing, The mahapurush of last century was Mahatma Gandhi. Narendra Modi is the y༒ugpurush of this century."

He further added,"Mahatma Gandhi freed us from the slavery of the British with truth and non-violence, Prime Minister Naren🔯dra Modi has put the country on the path of progress on which we always wanted to see."

The Vice-President said that both Mahatma Gandhi and PM Modi reflected the spirit and teachings of Shrimad Rajcha🐈ndraji.

Strong reaction from Opposition parties

Reacting to VP Dhankhar's remarks, Congress leader Manickam Tagore said it was "ﷺshameful" to co𒅌mpare Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Mahatma Gandhi.

Taking to the microblogging site X (formerly Twitter), Manickam Tagore ꦍwrote, "If you compare with Mahatma itꦦ's shameful sir, we all know there is a limit to sycophancy now you have crossed that limit, and to be in your chair and position and to be a sycophant does not add value sir."

Besides Congress, criricism came Bahujan Samaj Party MP Danish Ali also who reacted to Dhankhar's remarks, wondering what "new era has been started in Pa💯rliament by allowing an MP from the Prime Minister's party to use abusive language against a particular communit꧋y".

His statement was in reference to the BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri's objectionable remarks against the BSP leader in the Lok Sabha in Septem💙ber during a discussion on the Chandrayaan-3 missꦜion.
