Uttar Pradesh: 5 Dead, 40 Injured As Stage Collapses At Religious Event In Baghpat; Probe Underway

Commenting on the matter,ꦜ Baghpat SP Arpit Vijayvargiya said that a religious event of the Jain community was going on near Baraut police station area. Hundreds of devotees reached the spot to offer laddoos to Lord Adinath in the presence of Jain monks.

Five people died while at least 40ꦇ other devotees were injured after a makeshift stage collapsed during Laddu Nirvana Mahotsav at Baraut city in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat district on Tuesday♉.

The incident occurred at♐ around 8💮 am during a programme organised for the 'Abhishek' of Lord Adinath at Shri Digambar Jain Degree College ground on Gandhi Road in Baraut City.

The wooden stairs of the 65-foot makeshift stage made out of bamboo and wood collapsed during a laddoo ceremony as🔜 hundreds of devotees reached the spot to offer laddoos to Lord Adinath in the presence of Jain monks.

Officials, including senior police officialsಌ, rus🔴hed to the spot with a large police force to manage the situation. The injured were immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.

What did the officials say?

District Magistrate (DM) of Baghpat Asmita Lal ♌told ANI, "There was a Jain community program in Baraut. A wooden structure collapsed here, injuring abo♐ut 40 people. 20 people were sent home after treatment while 20 others are still undergoing treatment. 5 people have died."

According to Baghpat SP Arpit Vijayvargiya🌳, “A religious event of Jain community was going on near Baraut police station area. Several people got injured after a watchtower they were standing on collapsed. Their treatment is underway. Further updates will be shared. ”

"We are probing the incident," he said.

CM Yogi Adityanath reacts

Taking cognisance of the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the distri♑ct administration officia꧙ls to ensure proper treatment of the injured. He also wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

"The loss of life in the unfortun🌱ate incident in Baghpat district is extremely 💧sad. My condolences are with the bereaved family. District administration officials have been instructed to carry out relief operations expeditiously and provide proper treatment to the injured. I pray to Lord Shri Ram to give a place to the departed souls in his feet and provide speedy recovery to the injured", the chief minister posted on X in Hindi.
