A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and other senior officials crash, "or made an emergency landing" on Sunday in Jolfa of northwestern Iran, reportꩵs said. Iran's state media termed it "hard landing” with elaborating further.

As per reports, the helicopter either crashed or made an emergency landing in the Dizmar f🧔orest between the cities of Varzaqan and Jolfa in Iran's East Azerbaijan province, near its bord♍er with Azerbaijan, under circumstances that remain unclear.

In🅠it🐷ially, Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi said the helicopter “was forced to make a hard landing due to the bad weather and fog.”

  • Iranian officials said the mountainous, forested terrain and heavy fog affected search-and-rescue operations. The president of the Iraniaꦓn Red Crescent Society, Pir-Hossein Koulivand, said 40 search teams were on the ground in the area despite “challenging weather conditions”. The search is being done by teams on the ground, as “the weather conditions have made it impossible to conduct aerial searches” via drones, Koulivand said, according to IRNA.

  • AP reported Raisi was traveling in Iran's East Azerbaijan province. The report said incident happened near Jolfa, a city on the border with with the nation of Azerbaijan, some 600 kilomet🔴ers (375 miles) northwest of the Iranian capital, Tehran. Some reports put it farther east near the village of Uzi, but details remained contradictory.

  • It is said Raisi w🍌as ꦚreturning from a ceremony to open a dam on Iran’s border with Azerbaijan when his helicopter crashed upon landing in Varzaqan region.
