Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’ is one of her most-anticipated projects. The movie was initially slated to release last year but the release date was postponed to 2024. Ahead of the release of the film, the makers have released the trailer of ‘Emergency’ on social media. The trailer has become the talk of the town primarily due to Ranaut’s portrayal of former Prime Ministerꦬ Indira Gandhi.
The 2:53 minute-long trailer of ‘Emergency’ opens with a shot of Kangana Ranaut entering her office in a white saree. The movie follows Indira’s journey in politics and her relationship with her father late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. It explores how she handled war and assumed charge. The movie will primarily explore the ramifications of the Indian Emergency that was impos൲ed from 1975-1977. It shows how she introduced a dark time with the Emergency and how she lost the confidence of the people.

Ranaut had always clarified that ‘Emergency’ is not a biopic on Indira but rather a political drama about the Indian Emergency. Apart fro♌m her physical transformation and voice modulation, nothing about Kangana exudes the confidence that is required from her role. While she delivers a bearable performance in the first half, she resorts to theatrics in the second half when the Emergency is imposed. Shreyas Talpade as Atal Bihari Vajpayee sticks out like a sore thumb. Anupam Kher as Jayaprakash Narayan delivers a decent performance but it’s just not enough when we know that he is capable of so much more.
