Tottenham 3-0 Elfsborg, UEL: Spurs Put League Woes Behind As Postecoglou's Youngsters Seal Top-8 Finish

Super-subs Dane Scarlett and Damola Ajayi helped seal Tottenham Hotspurs' place in the Europa League top eight with a hard-fought 3-0 win over Elfsborg. (More Football News)

The victory sees Spurs finish fourth in the 36-team standing🤪🀅s, with a potential tie against AZ Alkmaar, Midtjylland, FCSB or Ajax awaiting in the last 16. 

S𒅌purs started brightly at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but were unable to make their early chances count, with Isak Pettersson making a string oꦅf impressive saves to keep the game level. 

Petterson's best moment arrived six minutes before the break, brilliantly ♚tipping over Mikey Moore's cloওse-range effort over the bar after good work from Son Heung-min 

But upon their return from the break, Elfsborg squandered a glorious chance when Jalal Abdullai's acrobatic effort cl🍎eared the crossbar following Besfort Zeneli's deflected strike♉. 

However, Spurs 🎉would get themselves ahead in the 70th minute when Scarlett, on to replace the injured Radu Dragusin, headed home from Dejan Kulusevski's cross. 

And with six minutes rem��aining, Ajayi - on his full Spurs debut - sealed the win after playing a neat one-two on the edge of the𓄧 box with Scarlett before finding the bottom corner. 

Fellow youngster Moore added further gloss to the scoreline in second-half stop♏page time, whose driving run ended with him squeezing the ball past Petterson.

On a big night for not only Postecoglou but for Spurs too, it was their young players who stood up to the task to ensure of their progression to the last 16 in a game that threatened to get uncoꦉmfortable at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. 

Courtesy of goals from Scarlett (20y 312d), Ajayi (19y 34d) and Moore (17y 172d), Spurs became the first English side ℱto have three scorers under the age of 21 in a major European match since Arsenal in October 2007 vs Slavia Prague (Theo Walcott, N💟icklas Bendtner and Cesc Fabregas).

Moore also became England’s youngest-ever scorer in major European competition, breaking Jimmy Greaves’ record (17y 245d), set in October 1957 for the Lo💖ndon XI against Lausanne-Sport.

Ajayi, meanwhile, became th♌e youngest sub to score for Tottenham in major European competition since Harry Kane against Shamrock Rovers in December 2011 (18y 140d).
