The Super Giants finally decided to give Quinton de Kock his favoured opening slot after a failed gamble in the middle order. De Kock (43 off 30) straightaway got among the runs but got little support from the other end. Matthew Breetzke (25 off 29) who scored some runs was a little too slow leading to the opening partnership never taking off in terms of run rate. Heinrich Klaasen and Kane Williamson failed. Similꦺar ꦓstory unfolded towards the end of the Super Giants innings where even as JJ Smuts (32 off 22) got some quick runs, Wiaan Mulder (24 off 27) could not up the ante.
The credit of putting a leash on the run scoring went to Paarl Rဣoyals' spinners. Bjorn Fortuin (13/1 in 4), Joe Root (18/1 in 4) and Mujeeb ur Rahman (23/2 in 4) werওe all disciplined and did not let the Super Giants batters break free. As a result, Royals were given a target of 143 runs only.
Royals got a quick start thanks to Luan-dre Pretorio𒈔us but Joe Root was dismissed by Chris Woakes for a Golden Duck. Pretorious (25 off 13) too fell soon but his intent was carried forward by Ruben Hermann (44 off 22) who killed the game within the powerplay. He slammed Woakes for 20 runs in the final over of the powerplay to take the Royals to 70/2 in six overs. With almost half of the runs already in the kitty in just six overs, the chase became a cake wa🌺lk for the Royals. Mitchell van Buuren (41 off 41) and David Miller (24 off 21) played with caution to take their team close before Dinesh Karthik (9* off 7) took the Royals over the line.
