🐼In connection to a murder case related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, a Delhi court on Tuesday awarded life imprisonment to former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar.

😼The judgment was pronounced by Special judge Kaveri Baweja at the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi for the alleged killing of Jaswant Singh and his son Tarundeep Singh on November 1, 1984. As per the verdict, Kumar has been held responsible for leading a mob and inciting it to kill Jaswant Singh and his son, Tarundeep Singh, in the Saraswati Vihar area of Delhi.

🅠Besides life imprisonment, Kumar has also been sentenced to two years under Section 147 for rioting, three years and a fine under Section 148 for rioting with deadly weapons, and seven years under Section 308 for attempting culpable homicide with intent to cause death or serious harm.

ꦍThe complainant, wife of deceased Jaswant Singh, and the prosecution had demanded death penalty for Kumar. The offence of murder carried a maximum punishment of death penalty, while the minimum sentence was life imprisonment.

🍒Kumar is currently lodged in Tihar jail. On February 12, the Delhi court convicted him for the offence and sought a report from Tihar Central Jail on his psychiatric and psychological evaluation which was in line with the Supreme Court's order that made asking for such a report in cases attracting capital punishment mandatory.
