The cold wave in the national capital is expected to get worse, with temperatures set to drop further, according to the India Meteorological Departꦅment (IMD). The minimum temperature is forecast to reach 5°C by December 31.
On Sunday, the national capital woke up to another foggy morning as temperatures continued to fall after the record-breaking rainfall on Friday. The Safdarjung Observatory reported a minimum temperature of 13°C, which is more than 6°C above the normal temperature for this time of year.
With no more rainfall expected for the rest of the year, the IMD has predicted that the min🎃imum temperature in Delhi to drop to 6🐻°C on December 30 and 5°C on December 31.
Meanwhile, the cold wave conditions are expected to become more intense in Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Chandigarh. The IMD has issued an orange alert for several cities in Punjab due to dense fog. A dense fog alert has also been issued for Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Punja🌃b, Haryana, and Chandigarh for both Sunday and Monday mornings and late nights.
Delhi experienced 41.2 mm of rainfall in a 🎃single day, setting a new record for the highest rainfall in December in the past 101 years. The heavy rain caused waterlogging and traffic jams in many parts of the city. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi's Central Control Room received 13 complaints, including 9 about waterlogging and 4 about fallen trees.
The Public Works Department (PWD) received one call ✨for waterlogging and one for a fallen tree, the off💝icials said. The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) said that by 7 PM they had not received any calls regarding waterlogging or fallen trees.
Delhi's air quality worsened on Sunday, moving into the 'poor' category. The ﷺAir Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 223 at 7 am an⛦d further deteriorated to 230 by 9 am. On Saturday, the 24-hour AQI had been in the 'moderate' category, reaching 135 at 4 pm.
