US-Based Hindenburg Research, Known For Adani-SEBI Reports, To Be Disbanded

🔥Renowned US-based short-selling firm Hindenburg Research, which particularly gained prominence in 2023 after publishing an anti-Adani report in 2023 that wiped out billions from his companies, is closing down. The announcement of disbanding came from founder Nate Anderson on Wednesday.

𝓀Since 2017, the year the firm was founded, Hindenburg's research findings led to several exposures of fraud, corruption, and mismanagement across industries including the market-crashing report on Adani and SEBI. In the founder's words, their research "shook some empires that we felt needed shaking."

ꦰThe development came within days of a Republican Congressman asking the Department of Justice to preserve all the documents and communications related to the investigations of Adani and his companies.

What did the founder say?

♛In a heartfelt note, Nathan 'Nate' Anderson, the founder of Hindenburg Research said, "The plan has been to wind up after we finished the pipeline of ideas we were working on. That day is today."

🔯“As I’ve shared with family, friends, and our team since late last year, I have made the decision to disband Hindenburg Research. The plan has been to wind up after we finished the pipeline of ideas we were working on. And as of the last Ponzi cases we just completed and are sharing with regulators, that day is today,” Anderson announced.

⭕Describing his background that initially lacked any sort of expertise in finance and industry connection, Anderson said, "When I started this, I doubted I was capable. I didn't have a traditional finance background. None of my relatives are in this field. I went to a state school. I'm not a slick salesperson. I don't know any of the right clothes to wear. I can't play golf."

Hindenburg's reports on Adani, SEBI

📖Hindenburg’s report on January 24 titled ‘Adani Group: How The World’s 3rd Richest Man Is Pulling The Largest Con In Corporate History’ raised concerns about the Adani group’s “substantial debt” that led to Adani group’s stocks crashing and knocking them from third to the seventh and then eighth in the richest billionaire’s list.

𝄹The report containing details of offshore shell entities in tax havens, from the Caribbean, Mauritius, and United Arab Emirates caused the group substantial loss since its release.

ಞHindenburg Research in its report against SEBI - Securities and Exchange Board of India suspected SEBI's unwillingness to act against Adani Group may be because its head Madhabi Puri Buch had stakes in offshore funds linked to the conglomerate - an allegation that the SEBI head called "baseless" and an attempt of "character assassination".

🌊The Adani group however had called the report “A malicious combination of selective misinformation and stale baseless and discredited allegations”.

Why is the disbanding coming now?

Despite speculations, Anderson refrained from citing any specific reason behind disbanding his organization less that a week before the swearing-in of US President-elect Donald Trump 🍌as the 47th President of the United States on January 20.

𝓰“So, why disband now? There is not one specific thing—no particular threat, no health issue, and no big personal issue. Someone once told me that at a certain point a successful career becomes a selfish act. Early on, I felt I needed to prove some things to myself. I have now finally found some comfort with myself, probably for the first time in my life,” he said.

𓆉“I probably could have had it all along had I let myself, but I needed to put myself through a bit of hell first. The intensity and focus have come at the cost of missing a lot of the rest of the world and the people I care about. I now view Hindenburg as a chapter in my life, not a central thing that defines me,” he said.

ꦬFurthermore, Anderson also said his focus will now be on making sure everyone on his team lands where they want to be next.

♔“Some are going to start their own research firm, which I will strongly and publicly encourage, even as I will have no personal involvement.
