UN Adopts Resolution Demanding Withdrawal Of Russian Troops From Ukraine, US Votes Against, India Abstains

The UN General Assembly adopted a Ukrainian resolution demanding withdrawal of all Russian troops from Ukraine. As per rꩲeports, the resolution came on February 24, the third anniversary of the conflict between two countries🥃.

The vote in the 193-member worl👍d body, whose resolutions are not legally binding but are seen as a barometer of world opinion, was 93-18 with 65 abstentions. That's lower than previous resolutions, which saw over 140 nations condemn Russia's aggression and demand a reversal of its annexation of four Ukrainian regions.

The United States of America, Russia and 16 ot🔥her coun𝄹tries voted against, while India opted for abstention.

The European-backed Ukrainian resolution was approved ahead of a competing US-backed proposal, which calls for a🍌 swift end to the war but notably omits any mention of Russia's invasion of Uk🌺raine on February 24, 2022.

Three Years

February 24, 2025 marks three years since the war in Ukraine began. What started with Russia's invasion of the neighbouring country has now become the bloodiest conflict Europe has seen since the Second World War. The war began on February 24, 2022, when Russian forces stormed into Kyiv and took the Ukrain𒐪ian capital by storm. While the war shocked the world, Moscow's invasion was also seen as a drastic escalation of the 2014 conflict between the two countries, in which Russia annexed Crimea.
