Cyclone Chido has left a trail of devastation across Mayotte, with widespread damage and significant loss of life feared. The island's infrastructure has been heavily impacted by the storm. Hundreds, possibly thousands, are feared dead after Cyclone Chido struck Mayotte on December 14. French military aircraft and ships have been deployed for rescue efforts on the island, which is located off the coast of East Africa. Cyclone Chido wreaked havoc on Mayotte over the weekend, with winds reaching over 200 km/h (124 mph). The storm tore homes from their foundations, while cutting off essential services like power, water and communication.
