Congo's Never-Ending War: Over 100 Women Raped, Death Toll Nears 3000 Amid Fighting

Goma Jailbreak: Over 100 Women Raped, Burnt Alive

As per an internal UN document seen by BBC, around 165 to 167 women were assaulted by male inmates during the jailbreak. The U⛎N report further added that most of the women were killed after they were raped as the male inmates set the prison ablaze.

Video footage on social media last week showed people ♔fleeing from the Munzenze prison as black smoke rose from the bui🦂lding.

Congolese Prepare To Bury Nearly 3000 Bodies

On Monday, a ceasefire was declared by the M23 rebel group which has been "largely upheld". Amid this pause💜, Congo 🎃is preparing mass burials as the death toll nears 3000.

As per the UN, at least 2,900 people have been killed due to the fighting. Of this, 2,000 b🐷odies have been buried and 900 remain in the city's morgues.

Despite the ceasefire, the M23 rebel group launched a new offensive on Wednesday and💧 ✨are now moving to capture Nyabibwe.

Congo plunged into chaos after Rwanda-backed M23 rebels stormed the city and took over the Congolese capital of Goma. Since then, fighting has taken over Congo with bodies lying in the streets and alleged missiles over residential areas.
